According to the "Report", as of June 2021, China has signed 206 cooperation documents for jointly building the "Belt and Road" with 140 countries and 32 international organizations, covering interconnection, investment, trade, finance, technology, society, humanities, People's livelihood, ocean and other fields. China and the countries building the "Belt and Road" have continuously improved multilateral, bilateral and regional cooperation mechanisms, reached a series of important consensuses, and expanded the benefits of development results.
The "Report" pointed out that in 2021, unity and cooperation and growth against the trend have become the key words for the joint construction of the "Belt and Road". The new crown pneumonia epidemic has swept the world, highlighting the importance of jointly building a "healthy silk road". China strives to overcome the impact of the epidemic, always upholds the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind, actively promotes international anti-epidemic cooperation, expands the scale of medical assistance to countries that jointly build the “Belt and Road”, conducts export of medical supplies in an orderly manner, and promotes “Internet” medical services, cloud consumption, and New business models and models such as the sharing economy help fight the epidemic.
Against the backdrop of the epidemic, the economic and trade cooperation of the “Belt and Road” is advancing against the trend, the scale of trade continues to expand, foreign investment is rising against the trend, the construction of cooperation platforms is progressing steadily, and the Silk Road e-commerce highlights are prominent, showing strong resilience and vitality. In terms of trade in goods, from 2013 to 2020, China's trade in goods with countries along the “Belt and Road” increased from US$1.04 trillion to US$1.35 trillion, and its share in China's total trade in goods rose from 25% to 29.1%.
Since 2013, the total trade volume of goods between China and countries along the route has reached 9.2 trillion US dollars. In terms of service trade, in 2020, China and the countries along the “Belt and Road” completed service imports and exports of 84.47 billion U.S. dollars; of which, service exports were 37.73 billion U.S. dollars and service imports were 46.74 billion U.S. dollars. In terms of investment, in 2020, against the background of a 35% year-on-year decrease in global direct investment abroad, Chinese domestic investors realized US$18.61 billion in direct investment in 58 countries along the “Belt and Road”, accounting for 14% of the total in the same period, compared with the previous year. The proportion increased by 0.3%. In terms of engineering construction, from 2013 to 2020, the value of new contracts signed by China in countries along the “Belt and Road” increased from US$71.57 billion to US$141.46 billion, an average annual increase of 10.2%; the completed turnover increased from US$65.4 billion to US$91.12 billion US dollars, an average annual growth rate of 4.9%.
